Xi'an No.5 Hospital, also called as Shaanxi Provincial TCM-integrated Hospital, is located at main Xiguan Street outside the Ximen Gate of Xi'an. It, founded in 1949 and later transformed into Xi'an No.5 Hospital from the Northwest Public Security and Military Hospital in 1954, is a tertiary A hospital integrating medical teaching, research, prevention, health and fitness. It is a major national construction unit of TCM-integrated hospitals, national major clinic speciality unit for rheumatism, major specialty unit for angiocarpy, northwest diagnosis and treatment center of rheumatology, Shaanxi provincial TCM diagnosis and treatment center of rheumatic diseases, Xi'an rheumatology institute, Chinese and western medicine hospital TCM-integrated hospital affiliated to Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine. It is an advanced unit in Chinese civilized cities, Shaanxi spiritual civilization and Shaanxi Ethos Construction.
At present, it is equipped with 700 beds and more than 40 clinical medical and technical departments. It is staffed with more than 830 employees, including more than 330 with junior and senior titles, more than 120 doctors and postgraduate students, 4 veteran TCM doctors famed in China and Shaanxi Province and 6 postgraduate tutors. In recent years, it has established more than 50 programs on scientific research and published more than 400 papers at or above the provincial-level journals, with 11 included by SCI. It has written 5 books and undertook more than 30 national, provincial and municipal further education programs. and launched the magazine of "Western Rheumatism". In recent years, It has introduced more than 300 advanced medical equipment such as 1.5T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), GE64-row 128-layer spiral CT, Siemens digital radiology (DR), dual-energy X-ray densimeter for bones, fully-automatic biochemical analyzer, and Doppler ultrasound diagnostic apparatus. It, with an average annual outpatient volume of more than 400,000 visits, enjoys a high reputation in the northwest and even across China.
In light of discipline construction, it has been adhering to the path of "specialized and comprehensive", forming a characteristic development path led by rheumatology department, and cardiovascular department and with hand-in-hand multidisciplinary development of internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, orthopedics etc. It, among the three major hospitals for diagnosis and treatment of rheumatism, is equipped with 326 specialty beds, ranking first among the specialty beds in Chinese hospital. Nine inpatient wards are equipped in the Rheumatology and Immunology Department, whose technologies clinical diagnosis, detection, treatment, etc. take a leading position in China.
The Cardiovascular Department, equipped with 2 inpatient wards and 76 authorized beds, has been focusing on early prevention and treatment, long-term recovery and prognosis of cardiovascular disease, forming a remarkable strength in TCM-integrated diagnosis and treatment and realizing 1+1>2.
Standardized and normalized preparations building is available for research and development more than 10 self-made preparations for rheumatic diseases, represented by the Qin pain-killer (also known as 746 tablets), stasis-removing and numbness-eliminating capsule, bone syrup, capsule and mixture series of arthralgia syndrome.
